About the game

What you do in a play session

Munchkin Cthulhu 2: Call of Cowthulhu is the second expansion in the Munchkin line that blends the series' sharp humor with H.P. Lovecraft's cosmic horror. The 56-card supplement adds a fresh wave of madness to the base game, introducing monsters such as Hog‑Sothoth, the Sheep Ones, Shoggoats and the titular Cowthulhu, plus new "whackers" like the Rolling Pin, Scythe and Super Duper Pooper Scooper to smash those absurd beasts. A key new element is the Madness card type, which works like Curses but always carries a hidden advantage, forcing players to weigh risk against reward. The game keeps the classic Munchkin mechanics: dice rolling for combat resolution, card trading among players, and variable player powers that give each participant unique abilities. As with any Munchkin set, the core rule remains – level up, defeat monsters, and backstab your friends – but the rural‑horror theme adds jokes about cosmic cows and bovine interventions, giving the setting an extra layer of comedy. All components are in English, so a near‑complete translation or solid language skills are required for smooth play. Designed for 3‑6 players, a typical session lasts about 90 minutes and carries a light weight (1.7/5), making it perfect for a quick, laugh‑filled game with plenty of obscure references. If you love Munchkin and don’t mind the translation hurdle, this expansion delivers more of the controlled chaos you expect, now with an agrarian twist that makes the experience even more memorable.
