About the game
What you do in a play session
Mysticana: The Queen's Interests places you at the heart of a royal council where every choice can alter the kingdom’s destiny. Two advisors, two hands of cards, a queen who walks the middle of a five‑position board. At the start, each player receives five cards and a secret interest that dictates what they aim to achieve. Each turn, the active player draws a card, plays one onto their face‑up agenda, and swaps a hand card with a court card. The card played is compared to the topic the queen is observing; if its element is stronger, the queen moves forward, if weaker, she retreats. When both have five agenda cards, scoring is based on each player’s secret interest. If a player manages to move the queen to their side of the board, they earn bonus points using both interests. The game ends when someone reaches 40 points, earning the queen’s favor. The Tug of War mechanic kicks in when the queen moves, as players must strategically swap cards to control the position. The 18‑card base features six ranks across three elements (rock, paper, serpent) that battle in a strength hierarchy, letting you plan which cards to play and when. The design is compact, with lightweight components and a clear layout, ideal for quick 20‑minute sessions. If you enjoy card games with tactical decisions and a fantasy twist, Mysticana offers high replayability thanks to varied interest combinations and the queen’s movement dynamics. It’s accessible to players familiar with basic card mechanics, yet provides enough depth for strategy lovers.
