About the game
What you do in a play session
In 'Napoleon against Europe', you dive headfirst into the epic saga of Napoleon Bonaparte as he attempts to consolidate his dynasty and maintain the conquests of the French Revolution. With Britain threatened by the Emperor's coronation and the formidable Grande Armée, the British response is swift and traditional: an imposing naval fleet and continental allies, all funded with plenty of gold. Napoleon has no other option but to crush this and other coalitions that will arise in his path. The game, driven by cards representing great events and personalities of the era, places one player in the role of the Emperor and the other as the tireless Albion, leading successive coalitions. The French objective is clear: impose its will on Europe, isolating Great Britain with a continental blockade and forcing the recognition of French hegemony. The choice between the Iberian Peninsula and the vast Russian steppes will be crucial. Both sides have card decks divided into two periods, 'Epic' and 'Punishments', controlling naval fleets and army corps, as well as elite units like the Imperial Guard Cavalry and the King's German Legion. The quality of generals is a decisive factor in operations. Over six rounds per game year, participants need a long-term vision for their objectives while also demonstrating operational skill in campaigns. Communication lines are vital for bringing armies to decisive battle. The game system simulates forced marches, attrition, evasion, counter-marches, and interceptions. In a vast theater of operations, each side seeks the initiative, equipping and repositioning their forces annually before the operations phase. Ignoring communication distances can be fatal. While France pursues operational excellence, the Coalition must rely on a long-term strategic vision to exhaust its enemy. The final decision is yours: will 'L'Aiglon' become Napoleon II or the Duke of Reichstadt?
