About the game

What you do in a play session

Ever imagined diving headfirst into a book, exploring its literary landscapes and being surprised by incredible sentences? Nouvelles ContRées is a cooperative game that invites you on this dreamlike journey, transforming you and your friends into true novel explorers. The goal is to navigate through a jungle of words, uncovering the 'Hidden Meaning' of a chosen book from your own bookshelf!

At the start, players set up their 'Camp' somewhere in the book. The objective is to advance to a 'Lost City' bookmark and ultimately uncover the final secret. Each turn, one player takes on the role of 'Pagefinder' (the reader), choosing a page and reading the first six lines from a book with at least 60 pages. The other players, the 'Group', must guess which of four Dixit-like illustrated bookmarks the Pagefinder associated with the excerpt.

If the Group guesses correctly, everyone advances the Camp in the book, progressing on their journey. Additionally, each player can try to accomplish individual missions, such as 'I guess the text contains 5 words with an X' or 'I guess it contains 3 words related to nature'. Success in these missions is crucial for victory. The game ends in defeat if you run out of letter tokens (which are lost upon mission failure), but victory is shared by all when the exploration of the Lost City is successfully completed and the Hidden Meaning is revealed. Get ready for a unique and collaborative literary experience!
