Objective of the Game

In Obsession: Wessex Expansion, you step into the shoes of a family managing a country estate. Your goal is to navigate the social complexities of the era, hosting activities and managing your family's reputation to achieve the highest score. As the Viscount and Viscountess Wessex, you aim to make the most of your estate and outmaneuver rivals to secure your family's legacy.

Setup

To set up the game with the Wessex Expansion, follow these steps:

• Wessex Player Board: If a player selects the Wessex player board, they receive a significant family bonus: a 2nd-level improvement at the beginning of the game.
• Wessex Improvements: The player with the Wessex player board chooses either a Tennis Court or a Breakfast Room. This chosen tile is placed in the player's country estate organiser along with the standard START tiles. The unchosen tile is returned to the box.
• Morning Room: This tile is added to the ESSENTIALS category. It provides an improvement tile with a prestige rating of 1.
• Retiring Room: This tile is added to the PRESTIGE category. It provides an improvement tile with a prestige rating of 1.
• Solo Play: For Extended Solo Play, you may add six unique opponents, such as house Plantagenet, which range from beginner to expert levels.

Actions and How to Play

Players must manage their estate and social invitations. Key elements include:

• Hosting Activities: Players must create a path for hosting new activities as their family reputation rises. It is advised to avoid hosting a single activity more than twice.
• Improvements: Players should seek to acquire and flip improvement tiles to maximize scores for renovations.
• Morning Room Mechanics: The Morning Room introduces a variable invitation, which is designed to help prevent unnecessary passing during the game.
• Retiring Room Mechanics: The Retiring Room provides a single female invite, which can be used to extend a deck or supply critical reputation early in the game. It is the first tile where a lady's maid serves as the essential activity servant.
