You are the head of a respected but troubled family estate in mid-19th century Victorian England. After decades of hardship, fortunes are finally turning around — now it's time to transform your property into something that impresses the high society of Derbyshire. Obsession is a 16-to-20-turn game where you build a deck of Victorian gentry personalities, purchase building tiles from a centralized market to renovate your manor, and manage an extensive staff of butlers, housekeepers, maids, valets, and footmen. Each building tile represents a room or outdoor space and determines which social event you can host — fox hunts, music recitals, billiards, political debates, or grand balls. The catch? You need the right staff available to serve the event. Success brings wealth, reputation, new elite connections, and access to more valuable building tiles in later turns. Throughout the game, a competitive courtship for the hand of the most eligible young gentleman or lady in the county presents specific renovation and reputation objectives. The player who accumulates the most victory points while best meeting these objectives wins both the game and the love interest. A solo mode is also available with adapted rules.
