Goal of the Game

Thousands of years have passed since your first adventures in the Stone Age, and your people are on the brink of a revolution in their way of life. In Paleo: A New Beginning, players must master the challenges of agriculture and domestication to write the next chapter of human history!

The main objective is to survive and thrive, utilizing new mechanics such as animal capture, grain cultivation, and farm expansion. Victory depends on fulfilling the specific missions of the chosen scenario.

Setup

To set up the game, follow the steps below including the expansion changes:

  1. Set up the farm board next to the base camp.
  2. Add the new tool tokens (bow and arrow, shell necklace, and flute) to the workbench.
  3. Replace the humans, dreams, and ideas cards with the new expansion versions.
  4. Place the secret tokens face down next to the night board.
  5. Position the expansion tokens (fence, sickle, and mill) below the corresponding symbols on the farm board.
  6. Add grain to the other resources in the supply.

Consult the manual for details regarding this section.

Gameplay

The game follows the basic structure of Paleo, with some changes:

  • Players explore cards, resolve actions, and collaborate to survive.
  • During the night phase, after feeding the humans and resolving missions, players must deal with spoiled food and tend to animals (discarding animals without fences).
  • New actions involve the farm, such as capturing animals, harvesting grain, and building expansions.

Actions and How to Play

Farm Actions

Cards with animal, grain, or expansion symbols allow you to:

  • Capture an animal: Add the animal to the stable (maximum of 3).
  • Animal action: Choose between stable (receive the animal's resources) or slaughter (discard the animal to obtain meat and hide).
  • Grain action: Choose between harvest (receive grain) or grind (convert grain into food).
  • Build expansions: Pay resources to build fences, a sickle, a mill, or a hut (which allows healing damage at night).

New Tools and Dangers

  • Bow and arrow: +2 permanent strength.
  • Flute: Allows you to recover cards from the discard pile.
  • Avoidable dangers: Can be ignored if the player does not have certain resources (such as grain).

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends when the players complete the mission of the chosen scenario. For example:

  • In the A New Beginning scenario, players must build expansions and resolve the "Isolation" card.
  • In the Wrath of the Fire God scenario, victory occurs by rescuing 20 humans from the volcano.

Consult the manual for details regarding this section.

Tips for Winning

  1. Prioritize fences: Animals without fences are discarded at night. Use grain to prevent this.
  2. Build the hut: The hut with a roof allows you to heal 2 points of damage per night.
  3. Plan your grain usage: Food spoils at the end of the day, so only grind grain when necessary.
