You know that moment when you're assembling your quilt in Patchwork and feel you need a little 'extra push' to dominate the board? That's exactly where the 5x5 Bonuskarte comes in. This promotional card, originally distributed at Spiel 2017, isn't a full game, but rather a small and powerful upgrade to the base game's rules.
The dynamic is simple but shifts the game's priorities: the first player to completely fill a 5x5 square area on their board earns the right to use the card. From that moment on, and until the end of the game, this player gains a super-choice power. Instead of being limited to the currently available patch, they can choose any of the four tiles located ahead of the neutral marker (moving clockwise).
This adds an extra layer of competitive tension. Now, you're not just trying to fill holes to score points, but you're racing against your opponent to claim this bonus. Whoever manages the 5x5 square first gains much more control over tile selection, allowing them to 'steal' that perfect patch the opponent was eyeing. It's the ideal tool for those who love optimizing every inch of the board and want to add a new spice to casual Patchwork matches, making the fight for space even more strategic and aggressive.
