Objective of the Game

In Quarriors: Rise of the Demons, our Quarriors, who were once happily gaining Glory, exploring the Wilds, and capturing Quarry, now face dark shadows and otherworldly ichor. This expansion introduces new challenges and mechanics related to "Corrupted" creatures and demons. The ultimate goal remains to gain Glory, but players will now contend with new ways to lose Glory and interact with Corrupted Quiddity dice.

Preparation (Setup)

Setup works in exactly the same way as the basic Quarriors game, with one key difference:

  • You now have another Basic die—the Corrupted Quiddity die—which is used in every game.
  • This means that you will have 14 cards in the Wilds instead of 13.

There are several recommended ways to integrate the expansion cards:

  1. Quarriors, with a hint of Corruption: Shuffle the expansion cards in with the base Quarriors game and deal them out randomly as you normally would. A typical game should have 1-3 Corruption cards in it.
  2. Quarriors, with a side of Corruption: Shuffle the expansion cards separately and flip over 4-5 cards to start the Wilds, then fill in the remainder with cards from the base game.
  3. Quarriors, with two scoops of Corruption: Shuffle the expansion cards separately and use all the corruption you can handle to start the Wilds, then fill in what little remains with cards from the base game.
  4. Quarriors, the democratic way: You and your play group can diplomatically agree to set up the Wilds any way you choose.

Ações e Como Jogar

New Components and Concepts

  • Corrupted Quiddity Die: This is a new Basic die used in every game. It has two faces with a Quiddity symbol containing a "0", meaning it gives you nothing for your turn. It also has a face showing three Burst symbols. When you roll this face, use the ability described on the Corrupted Quiddity Power Card.
  • Corrupted Creatures: The expansion includes "Corrupted" versions of the 10 creatures from the original game.
  • Demonic Overlord: A new class of Creature.
  • Corruption Spell: A new type of Spell.

Gaining Corrupted Quiddity Dice

Corrupted Quiddity dice cannot be captured directly from the Wilds. You can, however, gain them from effects of your own or your opponents' dice. If a die instructs you or an opponent to "gain a Corrupted Quiddity die from the Wilds," take the named die from the Wilds and put it in your Used Pile. If there are no dice in the Wilds to take, ignore the effect (unless an alternate effect is stated).

  • Example: When Warrior of the Quay scores, choose 1 opponent: That opponent gains 1 Corrupted Quiddity die from the Wilds.
  • Example: Casting Corruption Incantation destroys all Creatures (including yours), removes Corruption Incantation from the game, and makes you gain 1 Corrupted Quiddity die from the Wilds.

Removing Dice from the Game

Some cards will ask you to permanently remove dice from the game. This is not the same as culling. When you remove a die from the game, it is gone for good; place it off to the side or back in your expansion box.

Losing Glory

It is now possible for a player to lose Glory during the course of the game. The minimum Glory you can have is 0. If a player with 0 Glory is forced to lose Glory, their Glory total remains 0.

  • Example: When Questing Wizard is summoned, choose 1 opponent to lose 1 Glory.

Immunity to Damage

Some Creatures (like the Corrupted Ghostly Spirit) are immune to certain types of damage. These Creature cards state "takes no damage" from a specific type of Creature, Spell, or player. A Creature with this ability cannot be destroyed by damage from that source. However, you can still assign that type of damage to the immune Creature each time you are attacked, up to its defense value (but not more than that!) to protect your other Creatures.

  • Example: Ghostly Spirit takes no damage from any opponent who rolled a Corrupted Quiddity die on his turn.

Dicas para Vencer

  • Be mindful of the new Corrupted Quiddity die. While you can't capture it directly, its effects, especially the triple Burst, can significantly impact your turn and potentially force opponents to gain them, which might not be to their advantage due to the 0 Quiddity faces.
  • Consider the implications of cards that cause players to lose Glory. Strategically targeting opponents with these effects, especially those close to winning, can be a powerful tactic.
  • When facing immune Creatures like the Corrupted Ghostly Spirit, remember that you can still assign damage to them up to their defense value to protect your other Creatures, even if the immune creature itself isn't destroyed. This can be crucial for managing incoming damage.
