About the game
What you do in a play session
In Quests of Valeria, you step into the shoes of a Guild Master, tasked with recruiting the most skilled citizens from the capital to complete quests posted in a bustling tavern. The goal is straightforward: accumulate more Victory Points than your rivals by the end of the game. It's a set collection game with a special twist, where you assemble your team of citizens to meet the requirements of each quest.
The game revolves around an open drafting mechanic for citizens in the tavern. When you hire a new member for your guild, you pay the cost by discarding cards from your hand. Some of these citizens come with bonus actions that can be triggered immediately, allowing for explosive combos and strategic plays. Each turn, you get two actions to choose from: drawing cards, hiring a citizen, reserving a quest to ensure no one else snatches it, or completing a quest that's within your reach. To complete a quest, you need to have the right citizens in your guild and send them to the discard pile.
When a player completes their fifth quest, the game ends, and everyone reveals their guilds to tally up the points. Quests of Valeria is a fast-paced game with low language dependency, offering an engaging experience for those who enjoy planning and optimizing their actions. It's perfect for anyone seeking a dose of fantasy with accessible mechanics, yet enough strategic depth to keep things interesting.
