About the game

What you do in a play session

Railways of Mexico transports players to mid‑19th‑century Mexico, a time when trade between the United States and the south is booming and railroads are emerging as the main freight artery. Each player becomes a railway baron tasked with planning, bidding, and laying tracks on a hex‑grid map of Mexican territory. The game blends auctioning operation cards—where you bid for the right to build or move trains—with tile placement that expands your rail network. As your network spreads, you can pick up cargo at strategic cities and deliver it to export points bound for the US, earning victory points. Core components include the Mexican board, Railroad Baron and Operation cards, a scoreboard, and resource tokens. Rules are easy to grasp, but strategic depth appears in route selection, auction timing, and delivery management. This expansion was bundled with the revised Railways of the World edition and can also be played standalone by owners of the first Railways of the World or Railroad Tycoon. Perfect for fans of network‑building, bidding, and a dash of railway history, all in under two hours.
