About the game
What you do in a play session
If you already enjoy the visual appeal and gameplay of Reef, get ready for an even deeper dive with the Kings of the Coral mini-expansion! This addition brings two charming little fish for each player, starting right beside your game board. The idea is that after performing your main action on your turn (whether drawing or playing a card), you can move one of these fish to an orthogonally adjacent space. If the fish hasn't joined the dance yet, it enters one of the outer rings of your board. And be careful not to place one fish on top of another; they don't like sharing the same spot! Another important point: no covering your fish with coral, alright? They need to be visible. The big payoff of this expansion comes during scoring: each formation you complete and score now grants an additional point for each fish on it. Since each formation can only be scored once, you can snag up to two extra points per formation. It's a simple yet elegant way to add an extra strategic layer, encouraging more careful planning to position both corals and fish, maximizing your points without hindering your reef's construction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Does this expansion work on its own, or do I need the base game Reef?
You need the base game Reef to use this expansion. It adds components and rules to the main game.
How many players does this expansion support?
The expansion maintains the same player count as the base game, which is 2 to 4 players.
Does the game's complexity increase significantly with this expansion?
No, the complexity remains low. The expansion adds a simple movement mechanic and extra scoring, maintaining the game's accessibility.
How much does it add to the game time?
The playtime does not increase significantly. The addition of the fish and their movements are quick and integrate into the normal flow of the game.
Do the fish have any function other than providing bonus points?
Primarily, they serve to score more in formations. They also act as a visual obstacle, as you cannot build coral over them, which requires slightly more careful planning.
