Step by step

Game Objective

In Rising Sun: Liberation of the Kami, players control Japanese feudal clans seeking to gain influence and power through the worship of Kami (Shinto gods). The goal is to accumulate the most victory points (VP) by the end of the game, which are earned through territorial conquests, alliances, honor, and control of the Kami.

Setup

To prepare the game with the Liberation of the Kami rules, follow the steps below:

  • Select 4 Kami that will be part of the game and place their miniatures near the corresponding Shrines on the board.
  • Place the cards of the chosen Kami face up, visible to all players.
  • Return the miniatures and cards of unused Kami to the box.

Consult the manual for details on this section.

Game Flow

The game is divided into Seasons, each with specific phases:

  • Kami Turns: At the start of each Season, the Kami enter the game if they are worshipped. The player with the most Strength in a Kami's Shrine places their miniature in any Province and receives their card.
  • Harvest Phase: Players collect resources from the provinces they control.
  • War Phase: Conflicts in provinces with multiple clans are resolved.

Consult the manual for details on this section.

Actions and How to Play

Players can perform various actions to influence the game:

  • Worship Kami: Gain control of a Kami by having the most Strength in their Shrine.
  • Move Miniatures: The miniatures of the Kami can be moved like normal pieces, except for specific restrictions (e.g., Susanoo traps pieces).
  • Use Kami Powers: Each Kami grants unique abilities in the province where they are located.

Consult the manual for details on this section.

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends after a set number of Seasons. Points are calculated based on:

  • Control of Provinces.
  • Clan honor.
  • Acquired Season cards.
  • Bonuses for controlling Kami.

Consult the manual for details on this section.

Tips for Winning

  • Focus on controlling Kami that complement your strategy. For example, Amaterasu protects your pieces if you have high Honor.
  • Use Ryujin to increase your Strength if you have a variety of Season cards.
  • In provinces with Hachiman, prioritize hiring Ronin to double your efficiency in battles.
