If you've already enjoyed the tension of figuring out who the traitor is in Saboteur, get ready, because the Saboteur 2 expansion adds more fuel to the fire (or rather, more pickaxes to the mine!). The core objective remains the classic tug-of-war: miners want to dig the tunnel to the gold, while saboteurs do everything in their power to ensure that never happens. However, the chaos is now bigger and more intriguing.
The biggest game-changer here is the introduction of teams. Now, miners aren't just one single block; they can be divided into rival teams (such as blue vs. green). This means that even if the gold is found, only the team that actually reaches it scores the loot. Imagine the tension: you help a fellow miner dig, but you're secretly hoping your specific team is the one that profits in the end!
Beyond the team rivalry, the expansion introduces new characters that shake up the dynamics. We have the Boss, Profiteers, and Geologists, each with their own motivations and goals. To make exploration more complex, new tunnel cards introduce ladders, bridges, and doors, allowing paths to be much more than just straight lines. You can now leap over obstacles or strategically block passages.
And of course, action cards have been buffed. It's now possible to steal gold from other players or, in a plot twist worthy of a soap opera, change your role mid-game. If you were an honest miner, you might suddenly become the saboteur everyone hates, or vice versa. It's the perfect dose of chaos for those who love bluffing, deceiving friends, and laughing at those who believed your lies. If you already own the base game, this expansion is essential to refresh the experience and add layers of strategy and mischief to the gameplay.
