Step by step
Goal of the Game
In Saboteur: Greedy Dwarf, players take on the roles of miners or saboteurs, but with a new character: the Greedy Dwarf. The main objective is to build an uninterrupted path from the starting card (with the ladder) to the Lost Gold card. The Greedy Dwarf only wins points if they personally complete the path, receiving the gold nuggets alone. Otherwise, they are excluded from the distribution, even if their team wins.
Setup
To prepare the game:
- Replace one miner card with the Greedy Dwarf card during the distribution of dwarf cards.
- Shuffle the objective cards and place them face down, following the base game rules.
- Distribute the starting cards according to the Saboteur or Saboteur 2 rules.
Consult the manual for details regarding this section.
Gameplay Flow
The game follows the normal flow of Saboteur, with players taking turns to play cards and build the path. The Greedy Dwarf acts as a miner, but with an individual objective:
- If they complete the path to the gold, they alone win 4 nuggets.
- If the miners win without their direct contribution, they receive nothing.
Consult the manual for details regarding this section.
Actions and How to Play
The Greedy Dwarf plays like a miner, but with special rules:
- Greedy Dwarf Victory: If they place the last card of the path, they receive 4 nuggets alone.
- Greedy Dwarf Defeat: If the miners win without them, they do not participate in the gold distribution.
There are no specific additional actions for the Greedy Dwarf, but they must play strategically to ensure their individual victory.
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends when a complete path is built to the Lost Gold. Scoring is determined as follows:
- If the Greedy Dwarf wins, they receive 4 gold nuggets, and no one else receives anything.
- If the miners win without the Greedy Dwarf, they receive no nuggets, and the gold is divided among the winning miners (one fewer card is drawn for distribution).
Tips for Winning
- Focus on completing the path: As the Greedy Dwarf, your only chance of winning is being the last one to place a card on the path. Prioritize cards that block other players or advance your objective.
- Watch the saboteurs: If there are saboteurs in the game, they may hinder the miners, increasing your chances of winning alone.
- Stay discreet: Avoid drawing attention so you are not blocked by other players.
