Objective of the Game

In Sagrada, players are working to create beautiful stained-glass windows. The goal is to successfully place dice into your Window according to specific patterns while managing colors and values. The player who best completes their window and fulfills specific goals will win the game.

Preparation (Setup)

Setup is nearly identical to the base game, but varies depending on whether you are using the optional Private Dice Pool Rules.

Standard Rules Setup

  • Dice Bag Setup: Add the following number of dice to the bag based on player count:
    • 2 Players: 10 of each color (50 total)
    • 3 Players: 14 of each color (70 total)
    • 4 Players: 18 of each color (90 total)
    • 5 Players: 22 of each color (110 total)
    • 6 Players: 26 of each color (130 total, all the dice!)
  • Set aside any remaining dice.
  • Private Objective Cards: Shuffle all Private Objective Cards from the base game and the expansion together.

Private Dice Pool Rules Setup (Optional for 2-6 Players)

  • Give each player a Private Dice Pool Board.
  • Give each player 2 dice of each color. Players roll these dice and place them anywhere in the slots on their Private Dice Pool Board.
  • Dice Bag Setup: Add the following to the bag:
    • 2 Players: 6 of each color (30 total)
    • 3 Players: 8 of each color (40 total)
    • 4 Players: 10 of each color (50 total)
    • 5 Players: 12 of each color (60 total)
    • 6 Players: 14 of each color (70 total, all remaining dice!)
  • Set aside any remaining dice.
  • Tool Cards: Include the Tool Cards from the expansion (Note: Glazing Hammer and Running Pliers are not used with these rules).
  • Private Objective Cards: Shuffle all Private Objective Cards from the base game and the expansion together. Optionally, you may use only the expansion's Private Objective Cards.

Game Flow

The game follows the standard rules of the base game, with specific modifications if using the Private Dice Pool Rules.

Standard Rules Flow

Gameplay is identical to the base game at all player counts. The Draft Pool size depends on the number of players:

  • 5 Players: 11 Dice
  • 6 Players: 13 Dice
(The formula is 2 dice per player, plus 1 additional die).

Private Dice Pool Rules Flow

When using these rules, there are three key differences: players take only 1 turn per round, a new action is available, and the Draft Pool is smaller.

  • Draft Pool Size: 1 die per player, plus 1 additional die (e.g., 6 players = 7 dice).
  • Turn Structure: Beginning with the Start Player, each player takes a single turn in clockwise order.
  • End of Round: Once the last player has completed their first turn, proceed to the End of the Round.

Actions and How to Play

On a player's turn, they may perform each of the following actions once, in any order. Each action is optional; a player may perform all three, any two, only one, or pass their turn.

Actions (Private Dice Pool Rules)

  • Select 1 die from your Private Dice Pool: Place it in an open space on your Window. All standard dice placement restrictions apply.
  • Select 1 die from the Draft Pool: Place it in an open space on your Window. All standard dice placement restrictions apply.
  • Use 1 Tool Card: Spend Favor Tokens to use a Tool Card. Note that Tool Cards from the base game that refer to the "Draft Pool" or "Drafted Die" cannot be used on dice from a Private Dice Pool.

Actions (Standard Rules)

End of Game and Scoring

Game End and Scoring are identical to the base game.

Scoring

Players gain Victory Points based on the following:

  • Standard scoring criteria from the base game.
  • Private Objective Cards: Players gain Victory Points equal to the sum of the values of dice within specific spaces in their Window (regardless of color).

Scoring Example: For a Private Objective like "Fence," you would sum the values of dice in the specified shaded spaces (e.g., if B1 is 3, C1 is 5, B5 is 2, and C5 is 3, the total is 13 VP).
