About the game

What you do in a play session

Shallow Sea is a board‑puzzle that plunges you into the crystal‑clear waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Each player starts with a 4x4 board and a colorful assortment of tiles: fish, coral, and other marine life. The goal is to build color patterns and place tiles so that like‑colored fish surround a coral, activating it and turning it into a home for more fish. An open‑drafting mechanic lets you pick tiles from a common pool, while tile placement requires careful attention to alignment and compatibility. Once a coral is completed, you choose which fish will inhabit it, taking into account ecosystem cards that demand specific combinations. Shells act as “movement tools,” luring fish to create combos and finish multiple corals in a single turn. Scoring hinges on end‑game bonuses that reward well‑built patterns and grid coverage, where each occupied space earns points. Variable setup—cards and objectives change each game—keeps the experience fresh. There’s also a solo variant that pits you against the system. Shallow Sea blends strategy, long‑term planning, and a dash of surprise, all wrapped in an underwater theme that delights both newcomers and puzzle veterans.
