About the game

What you do in a play session

Sovereign Skies: Tides of Triumph arrives as the first official expansion for Sovereign Skies, adding a fresh set of bonus abilities that shake up the political and space‑exploration dynamics of the base game. During setup you shuffle the Tides of Triumph deck and place it beside the first player; the revealed card defines the event that can be triggered during play. A time token sits on the topmost hex of the card and, at each turn of the first player, moves down one space before they act. When the token reaches the bottom hex, the event card is discarded and a new one is drawn, restarting the cycle.

These cards introduce a variety of effects – from shifting area influence, to temporary rondel bonuses, to opportunities for special set collection. Since the Action Queue mechanic already exists in the base game, the expansion slots in smoothly, letting players plan ahead and react to the events the cards generate. The rondel still limits action choices, but now with new movement routes that can unlock powerful abilities.

The goal is simple: add strategic depth without overcomplicating things. Playtime stays between 30 and 60 minutes for 1‑4 players, and the complexity remains medium, perfect for those who already enjoy the base game and want more variety without a steep learning curve. If you love mixing politics, exploration, and tactical decisions, Tides of Triumph provides exactly the extra spice, keeping the flow and sci‑fi vibe that makes Sovereign Skies a favorite among space‑themed board gamers.
