About the game

What you do in a play session

The HW‑290 expansion drops another “hawk” from Corellian Engineering Corporation into the X‑Wing Miniatures universe, a ship designed to look like a bird in full flight. Inside the box you get a finely‑sculpted 1/270 scale miniature, its maneuver dial, all required tokens and four pilot cards, including the legendary Kyle Katarn. Katarn’s special ability lets him assign his focus tokens to friendly ships within range 1‑3, opening a host of support options for your squad. The set also includes six upgrades, among them the exclusive Moldy Crow title card that represents Kyle’s signature vessel. Each HW‑290 can be fitted with either a turret weapon or a crew member, letting you tailor the ship to your preferred playstyle. Core mechanics stay the same: dice rolling for attacks and defenses, point‑to‑point movement via the dial, simultaneous action selection, and variable player powers for each pilot. The expansion adds an “enclosure” token to create zones that can block line‑of‑sight or protect units. Like all X‑Wing expansions, HW‑290 is not a standalone game; it supplements the base game, adding new tactical choices and reinforcing the Star Wars space‑combat theme. Perfect for owners of the core set who want more ship variety, especially fans of Kyle Katarn and support‑focused vessels. With a BGG weight of 2.3 the complexity is light, and a typical battle lasts 30‑45 minutes depending on scenario size. In short, it’s a solid supplement with quality components and fresh strategies for galactic dogfights.
