Steam Barons arrives as the first expansion for Mayfair's classic Steam, adding two fresh maps: the eastern United States with parts of Canada and northern England. Each map supports five to six players under the standard rules, but the real kicker is the optional rule set that introduces a stock‑market system. Besides laying tracks and moving cargo, you can now buy and sell shares of the railway companies, betting on the value of the routes you build. This financial layer makes the game work nicely with smaller groups, from two to six players, because profit can come from both railway operations and share speculation. The expansion supplies 144 wooden train pieces—compatible with the base game—and 38 extra tiles to prevent shortages on the larger maps.
