In Strange World Above the Clouds each player builds a tiny floating universe on a 4×4 grid, placing cards one by one. Every round you receive a closed draft of three cards, pick one and pass the other two to the next player – a tight draft that instantly raises the tension. The chosen card must be placed orthogonally next to an existing card in your area; many lands have placement restrictions, and if you fail to meet them the card is turned face‑down, revealing the Tzimime side, which scores no stars at game end. Tzimimes are hungry creatures that "devour" poorly placed cards, turning progress into loss.
The goal is to earn the most stars after all 16 cards are placed. Some cards add extra points for horizontal or vertical lines, while others impose binding effects that influence later moves. Because the draft is so limited, you’ll often receive cards that are hard to fit, forcing you to mitigate constraints and turn a weakness into a strength. The game lasts 10‑20 minutes and supports 1‑4 players, making it perfect for quick sessions or on‑the‑go play. Though the rules are easy to grasp, the mix of closed drafting, tile placement, and Tzimime penalties creates a tactical puzzle experience that rewards smart choices and punishes slip‑ups. It’s a great fit for fans of light, highly replayable games with a surreal, sky‑high aesthetic.
