Tales & Games: The Hare & the Tortoise is a card‑driven betting and bluffing game inspired by Aesop’s fable. At the start, each player secretly chooses up to two of five competitors: turtle, hare, lamb, wolf, and fox. After drawing a seven‑card hand, the player places one card face‑down as an additional bet. Players then lay down 1‑4 cards of the same animal, refill to five cards, and when eight cards total or four of a single animal are played, the animals move according to quirky rules: the turtle moves one space, or two if four cards are played; the hare runs two spaces per play but sleeps if it’s leading with four cards; the fox moves a number of spaces equal to the cards played; the lamb moves one more space than the cards, stopping to drink at water; the wolf moves 1‑2 spaces if few cards are played, or one less than the number of cards if more, plus it has howl cards that freeze others. After movement, a new round begins. The game ends when three of the five animals reach the finish, and points are awarded based on final placement and bets. It lasts 15‑20 minutes, supports 2‑5 players, and is perfect for quick betting and hand‑management play. Although aimed at children, the bluffing and animal themes make it enjoyable for adults too. The artwork is simple yet charming, and the 35‑card deck is easy to assemble and transport.
