Game Objective

In Tapestry: Plans and Ploys, players control asymmetric civilizations in pursuit of development and conquest. The objective is to accumulate victory points (VP) through various strategies, such as advancing on progress tracks, building your capital city, exploring territories, and interacting with opponents. The game ends when a player reaches the end of the scoring track, and the winner is the one with the most VP at the end of the count.

Preparation (Setup)

  1. Shuffle the new civilization cards and tapestry cards with those from the base game.
  2. Place all original territory tiles into the exploration bag (there are no new territory tiles in this expansion).
  3. Replace the original space tile with the corrected one and shuffle it with the 4 new space tiles.
  4. Optional: Place the 12 landmark tokens on the corresponding progress tracks to remember which landmarks are available.
  5. The last player in starting order must draw landmark cards equal to the number of players, choose one, and pass the rest clockwise. Each player places the corresponding landmark miniature in their area.

Game Flow

The game follows a system of individual turns, where each player performs actions to advance their civilization. Refer to the manual for details on this section.

Actions and How to Play

Tapestry Cards

  • Entertain the Masses: Gain the stadium landmark and place it in your capital city.
  • Manifest Destiny: Conquer a territory adjacent to your capital city and gain the benefit of a territory you control.
  • Cartography: Gain and explore a territory. If you gain at least 3 resources, you can conquer it.
  • Surprise Party: Can be discarded to take down an enemy outpost if you are further advanced on the military track.

Landmarks

By fulfilling the objective of your landmark card at the end of the turn, acquire the landmark and place it in your capital city. Examples:

  • Having at least 6 of a specific resource.
  • Having 3 income buildings of the same type.
  • Completing a row or column in the capital city.

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends when a player reaches the end of the scoring track. Points are counted as follows:

  • Position on the progress tracks.
  • Buildings and landmarks in the capital city.
  • Controlled territories and conquests.

The new tie-breaking criterion is the player with the highest landmark miniature in their capital city.

Tips for Winning

  • Focus on your landmark: Prioritize fulfilling the objective of your landmark card early in the game to gain advantages.
  • Use treacherous tapestry cards: Cards like Surprise Party and Double Cross can hinder opponents during conquests.
  • Take advantage of the new space tiles: Some give continuous VP when advancing on specific tracks.
