About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready for this heavy hitter! Tartarus is a miniature-agnostic skirmish game where you're free to use the minis you already own! The setting is a dark, post-apocalyptic future where humanity, in its secular evolution, faced cosmic punishment, turning Earth into a hellscape ruled by orbital horrors. Even death has lost its meaning, as you'll simply rise again, perpetuating the cycle of violence for the pleasure of new cosmic overlords. You'll command a warband of broken warriors, mind-warped cultists, or ravenous creatures, all vying for power, survival, or the favor of the ancient Archon Moons. This initial release is a free PDF to get you into the action: it includes lore to understand the world, simplified core rules, two pre-made warbands with their sheets, and a three-part narrative campaign. To play, you'll need about 8 32mm miniatures, 5 six-sided dice, a tape measure, a 24"x24" play area, and an opponent. The full version, launching on Kickstarter in 2026, promises expanded lore, six full factions, custom thrall creation, neutral creatures, a solo mode, and a deep campaign. And the best part: it's free to try right now, no strings attached!
