Step by step

Objective of the Game

In Tawantinsuyu: The Golden Age, you act as a leader striving to succeed Pachacuti and maintain the prosperity of the Inca Empire. Your goal is to manage your nobles, construct palaces, and learn from the vassal nations you have conquered to bring glory to the Realm of the Four Parts. You achieve this by balancing the worship of the sun god Inti, expanding your influence across the four suyu (regions), and keeping your people happy. The game concludes based on specific triggers, and the player with the most Victory Points (VP) is declared the successor.

Preparation (Setup)

To set up the game, follow the base game instructions with these specific additions based on the modules you choose to include:

  • General Setup: Shuffle the new Passive Buildings (ZA1-ZA8) and the Production Building (PX01) into the base game components. You may use the Z04X tile as a replacement for the original Z04.
  • Way of the Sun: Place the Temple overlay (Ruruy or Simpa side) over the bottom half of the Temple. Place Temple markers on the bottom step.
  • Vassals of the Inca: Give each player 4 Vassals and 2 Conquest markers. Shuffle Passive Buildings ZV1 and ZV2 into the game. Shuffle the 10 Nation tiles (VN prefix), draw 4, and place them in the yellow boxes next to the four conquest regions.
  • Nobles and Newcomers: Place the Newcomer overlay below the Village and fill it with 3 Newcomer Workers from the draw bag. Shuffle Passive Buildings ZN1-ZN8 and Palaces (X1-X15) into the game. Create a third building stack for Palaces and reveal 2, ensuring 6 total tiles are in the Building Market. Each player receives one random Palace and 2 stones at the start. Shuffle the 6 new God cards into the deck.

Fluxo do Jogo

The game proceeds in turns. On your turn, you must choose one of two options:

  1. Place a Worker: Discard 1 God card or 1 gold to place a Worker from your supply onto the game board.
  2. Perform 2 different secondary actions: You may perform these in any order:
    • Move the High Priest on the Coricancha.
    • Spread Cultural Influence on a Nation Tile.
    • Pray to collect a God card.
    • Train to draw 2 Army cards and discard 1.
    • Recruit from Nomads.

The game features Festival scoring phases. During a Festival, resolve all rewards in turn order. Do not refill offers until the end of the Festival.

Ações e Como Jogar

The expansion introduces several new mechanics:

  • Way of the Sun: Introduces Ruruy and Simpa paths on the Temple. When the path splits, you choose one branch and must continue along it. Rewards are found on the left of the step taken.
  • Vassals of the Inca: Use the Spread Cultural Influence action to place a Conquest marker on a Nation tile. You must pay 1 potato for each Conquest marker you already have on that tile to resolve its ability. You must place a Vassal to resolve a Nation ability.
  • Nobles and Newcomers: Palaces are a new building type. When you recruit a Worker, you may appoint them as a Noble if they match an empty Palace you own. Newcomers are two-colored workers; when placing one, you choose one color for adjacency and the other for special abilities.

Fim de Jogo e Pontuação

The game ends based on the base game triggers. Final scoring includes:

  • Palaces: Score 2 VP for each face-up Building.
  • Prophecy: Score an additional 5 VP for each Palace where you have fulfilled the Prophecy condition and have a Noble present.
  • Standing Nobles: Each standing Noble is worth 1 VP.
  • Majorities: Conquest markers on Nation tiles count toward the majority of each Region, but are the lowest-valued markers for tie-breaking purposes.

Dicas para Vencer

  • Manage your Vassals: Since you are limited to 4 Vassals, use them strategically on Nation tiles to maximize the expertise you gain from conquered nations.
  • Optimize Newcomers: Use the flexibility of Newcomers to trigger special abilities of Passive Buildings or Palaces by choosing the color that best fits your current needs.
  • Balance your Temple Path: Choose between Ruruy and Simpa based on your current resource needs, but be mindful of the negative VP penalty on the Simpa starting space if you do not advance.
