About the game
What you do in a play session
The tenth expansion for The Castles of Burgundy arrives with a special gift: the ability to play solo! This mini-expansion, originally a promotional item from the 2018 Brettspiel Adventskalender, introduces a double-sided board for you to venture into Burgundian lands without needing company. The core rules of the base game still apply, but with some adaptations designed for solo play. You start with some extra resources and an initial castle, and the scoring gains a different twist: upon reaching the point goal, you reset it and advance the marker to a new target, earning bonus points each time. Dice actions follow the usual pattern but with new features. For instance, when placing a ship, you can collect all goods from a depot and also have the option to trade 5 goods for a special tile from the black depot. These black tiles can be placed on any space on your board, helping to complete regions, but without activating their specific effects. Scoring for completing regions also changes: instead of points, you gain a tile from the black depot to place on the board. The ultimate goal is to fill your entire estate with 37 tiles within 25 rounds. It's a great addition for those who love The Castles of Burgundy and want to enjoy the game at their own pace, testing strategies and honing skills.
