About the game

What you do in a play session

Dive into the intense struggle for the English crown in The Cousins' War (Second Edition), a two-player card game and wargame that recreates the famous Wars of the Roses. For over three decades in the 15th century, the Houses of York and Lancaster, both branches of the royal family, waged a series of bloody conflicts for control of England. Each player takes on the role of one of these powerful houses, seeking to expand their influence and win decisive battles for territory.

The game unfolds over a maximum of five rounds, with each round representing a period of five to ten years of the historical conflict. In each round, players focus on increasing their influence across England and preparing for a crucial battle. In each turn, you decide where the next battlefield will be, playing action cards to deploy your troops and alter the level of influence in various regions. After strategic positioning, the battle is resolved through a system of bluff and counter-bluff, using three dice, until only one side has troops remaining on the field. Winning the battle is crucial for consolidating your house's dominance on the board.

Victory in The Cousins' War can be achieved in two ways: by dominating all regions of England or by controlling the most regions at the end of the fifth round. This Second Edition features larger components, providing a more immersive experience, and includes the optional 'Times of Change' variant, which adds event cards originally released as an expansion in the first edition, plus an extra card, Jura Belli. Prepare for a strategic battle full of twists and turns!
