About the game
What you do in a play session
The Fox in the Forest Duet is a two‑player cooperative trick‑taking game that blends card strategy with a race along a forest path. Each game consists of three rounds; at setup you place gem tokens on the board’s marked spaces and put the team tracker in the middle of the track. A 30‑card deck, divided into three suits numbered 1‑10, is shuffled and each player draws 11 cards. One revealed card becomes the decree, determining the trump suit. In each trick the leader plays a card and the partner must follow suit if able. The trick winner moves the team tracker forward a number of spaces equal to the fox‑footprints shown on the cards played. When the tracker lands next to a gem, the pair collects it. If the tracker would move past the end of the track, it returns to the centre and a forest token is added to one end, shortening the path and forcing tighter planning.
Odd‑numbered cards grant special abilities: some let the winner choose the direction of movement, ignore footprints, or swap cards with the teammate; another can change the decree, altering the trump. At the end of each round five new gems are placed, another forest token further reduces the track, and players draw a fresh hand of 11 cards from a newly shuffled deck. The goal is to collect all 22 gems before time runs out or the tracker is forced off the track with no forest tokens left. The game mixes hand management, limited communication (players can only give hints about their cards), and a shrinking map, creating constant tension and strategic choices. With about 30‑minute playtime, it offers an accessible yet deep experience, perfect for couples, friends, or anyone looking for a charming cooperative duel with mischievous foxes.
