About the game
What you do in a play session
You know that scenario you've already mastered, where victory felt easy and you felt like Gandalf himself? Well, the Nightmare Deck: The Long Dark is here to end that peace of mind. This small but lethal supplement transforms the original experience into a true nightmare, cranking up the difficulty for those seeking a real challenge in Middle-earth.
Basically, this deck isn't a full game, but rather a 'dose of malice' to inject into specific quests. It features 20 new encounter cards that replace or add to the originals, turning familiar locations into much darker places and common enemies into deadly threats. The goal is to reshape the scenario's encounter deck, forcing players to rethink their strategies and hand management, as the surprises are now far more terrifying.
In addition to the cards, you get clear instructions on which old cards must be removed and which new rules take effect to create this Nightmare Mode. It's the perfect choice for veteran player groups who have already built optimized decks and feel that the original game has become too 'easy.' Get ready for unexpected twists and turns that will leave everyone on the edge of their seats, questioning if survival is even possible. Originally released in FFG's Game Night Kits and later via print-on-demand, these decks are essential for those who want to test their group's limits in a journey where danger lurks around every corner of the path.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Can I play this solo?
Yes! The game supports 1 to 2 players, but be warned: in Nightmare Mode, playing solo is a herculean challenge.
What game do I need to use this deck?
You absolutely need The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game base game and the corresponding original scenario for this deck.
How long does a game take?
The estimate is around 60 minutes, but since the difficulty increases, the tension (and potentially the duration) may vary.
Is it too complex for beginners?
Yes, it's quite heavy (Weight 3/5). We don't recommend it for those still learning the basic rules; focus on normal mode first.
What's inside the box?
Twenty new encounter cards, a Nightmare Mode card with setup instructions, and a card with additional rules.
