About the game

What you do in a play session

Ready your swords and cloaks, because war has been kindled! The Flame of the West is the fifth deluxe expansion for The Lord of the Rings LCG, plunging players directly into the chaos of the first half of 'The Return of the King'. While Frodo and Sam continue their perilous journey toward Mount Doom, the spotlight shifts to the desperate resistance of Gondor and the leadership of Aragorn. It's that epic moment when the beacons of Gondor are lit, and the call for aid echoes across the land.

In this adventure, you and your companions will face monumental challenges: from braving the terrifying Paths of the Dead to fighting bloody battles against the Corsairs at Pelargir. The climax, of course, is the intense tension of standing fast against the Witch-king and the armies of Mordor during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. If you love that 'us against the world' feeling, this expansion delivers it in spades.

In terms of content, the package is generous. It includes 165 new cards featuring three scenarios with a truly epic scale. Additionally, it introduces a new version of Aragorn to lead the group, two new heroes, and thirty player cards representing the bonds between the Men of Gondor, the Riders of Rohan, the Elves, and the Dúnedain. The game requires careful resource management and the strategic combination of each hero's unique abilities to survive. It's a tactical challenge where every decision could mean the fall of a kingdom or the salvation of Middle-earth. If you're already playing the LCG, you know the learning curve is steep, but the satisfaction of conquering these scenarios is unmatched. The question is: can you hold the line while the fate of the Ring remains uncertain?
