Embark on an emotional and somewhat enigmatic journey with The Ravens of Thri Sahashri, a cooperative two-player game that will test your non-verbal communication skills. One player takes on the role of Ren, a girl who has lost her memory, while the other is Feth, her psychic friend, desperately trying to help her reconstruct the past. The premise is simple, but the execution is a brilliant challenge: you must communicate solely through the choice and placement of cards, without being able to speak about what's in Ren's hand or her exact goal.
The game unfolds in rounds where Feth draws cards from a deck consisting of five colors and numbers from 1 to 5, placing them on the playing field. Ren, in turn, has four hidden cards representing her lost memories. The goal is that, by the end of each round, the playing field contains exactly the colors of Ren's secret cards. The mechanic deepens when Ren chooses a card from the playing field to complete one of her memories, which are 'piles' of cards. A memory is considered complete when the sum of the cards in it reaches 7, except for the fourth pile, which must sum to 5, in homage to the Japanese poetic meter 'dodoitsu'.
But beware! The deck also contains raven cards that, when revealed, can 'eat' discarded cards of that color, removing them from the game and further complicating the task. The game is divided into three 'hands', and in the final hand, the pressure increases, requiring one memory to be completed each round. Failing to complete memories, running out of the deck, or revealing all five ravens means defeat for the duo. It's a true exercise in deduction and 'push your luck', where every decision is crucial and the synergy between players is everything.
