Get ready for a swift and strategic journey through 17th-century Amsterdam in Ticket to Ride: Amsterdam! This game captures the essence of the beloved Ticket to Ride series, but with a compact twist and a fast pace that allows for games lasting just 10 to 15 minutes. You'll be transported to the peak of the Dutch Golden Age, a period when Amsterdam was the global trade hub, its canals bustling with goods from every corner of the world. Your mission? To profit from this commercial effervescence by connecting routes and delivering merchandise.
The gameplay is familiar: collect transportation cards, claim routes on the city map, and complete trade contracts. Each player starts with 16 small carts, two transportation cards in hand, and one or two trade contracts indicating pairs of locations in Amsterdam's market. On your turn, you can choose from three actions: draw two transportation cards (either from the deck or the five face-up cards, noting that a face-up wild card counts as any color), claim a route on the board by discarding matching colored cards (gray routes accept any set of cards), or draw two new trade contracts, keeping at least one.
A special twist is collecting merchandise bonus cards when completing specific routes, primarily on the map's perimeter. The game continues until someone has only two carts remaining, at which point each player, including the one who triggered the end, takes one final turn. Final scoring is the sum of points from built routes, completed trade contracts, and your standing in the race for merchandise bonus cards – the player with the most takes 8 points, with others scoring less. Unfinished contracts subtract points. The player with the highest score wins! It's the classic Ticket to Ride formula, but perfect for a quick dose of fun and strategy.
