Step by step
Game Objective
In Transport, your goal is to become the best logistics operator in the world! To do this, you need to achieve your transport objectives before the other players and, at the same time, accumulate at least $360,000 in cash.
Preparation (Setup)
Let's prepare the game to start the logistics adventure:
- Unfold the board on a flat surface.
- Each player must choose one of the pawns.
- Choose one of the players to be the banker. If the banker is also playing, they should not mix their money with the bank's.
- The banker's functions are:
- Separate the money into piles with notes of the same value.
- Separate, shuffle, and place the country cards face down.
- Receive and make payments.
- Control loans, noting the borrowed amounts and rounds played on the loan table.
- Each player must draw an objective card, which will indicate the transport goal they must achieve in each continent throughout the game.
- Each player receives 10 notes of $1,000, 2 notes of $10,000, and one note of $20,000.
Game Flow
The game begins with players rolling the die. The player who rolls the highest number starts, followed by the player to their left, and so on.
Before rolling the dice in the first round, and always before rolling the die in any round, players must state which of the three routes (dashed on the board) and direction (North, South, East, West) they will follow, using the compass rose orientations on the board as reference.
The black spaces allow the player to change route.
When landing on a country space, the player must draw a country card from the deck. This card will indicate 3 products, the import cost of each product (S), the optional cargo insurance ( ), and the amount to be received for the service provided ( ). Only one product can be transported per round. After choosing the product, the player shuffles the country card back into the deck.
If the space they land on is occupied by another pawn, the player must move to the next free space in the chosen direction.
Rounds are counted from the next time the player rolls the dice after starting a transport. Each time they roll the dice, a round is counted on the control table.
Actions and How to Play
Transporting Cargo
To transport cargo, there are 3 options, with different costs and delivery times:
- Road: $1,000, 4 rounds delivery time.
- Sea: $2,000, 5 rounds delivery time.
- Air: $8,000, 2 rounds delivery time.
It is crucial to verify the feasibility of the chosen transport:
- If the country does not have a sea border, the player must use air or road modes.
- If the countries are not connected by land, the use of air or sea transport is mandatory.
- Road transport can only be done between countries on the same continent.
The amount received for the service provided should only be received when the player delivers the cargo to its destination. Players must record the transports made on the Control Table to know when they should receive the amounts for the services rendered.
While the cargo is being transported, continue playing in pursuit of your objective, only noting the delivery time for the cargo on the Control Table. Upon completing the necessary rounds for transport, the player receives the service value.
Insurance
Every time a player transports cargo, they have the option to pay for insurance, with a value defined based on the product's cost. Insurance is optional.
If the player lands on a misfortune space that mentions the loss or theft of the acquired cargo and does not have insurance, they will not receive any value for it. If they have purchased insurance, they can recover the value corresponding only to the cargo, receiving nothing for the service value. Insurance is not valid in case of delayed cargo delivery or damaged cargo.
When landing on misfortune spaces, the player must follow the instructions described in the table on the board itself. If the player is not transporting any cargo, nothing happens.
Control Table
The control table serves for players to record transported cargo and ongoing services. In it, the player must note:
- Product Transported
- Country of Origin
- Country of Destination
- Material Cost
- Insurance (yes or no)
- Chosen Mode
- Rounds Elapsed
- Amount to Receive for Service
At the end of the table, each player must mark the number of rounds played from the purchase of the cargo, to know when it will be delivered and when they should receive payment for the service provided.
Board Symbols
The translation of the symbols is at the bottom of the board and should be used as a reference:
- Two up arrows (one colored and one empty): The player must skip the number of spaces indicated on the space itself, following the same route initially chosen.
- No play symbol: The player must not play for the number of times indicated on the space itself.
- Dashed line: Forces the player who lands on this space to move along the route they are on for the number of times indicated on the space itself.
- Up and down arrows: There were problems with cargo transport and there will be a delay in delivery for the number of rounds indicated on the space itself. Cargo insurance has no effect in this case.
- Thief symbol: The last transported cargo was stolen. Without insurance, receives nothing and loses the cargo.
- Receive from all symbol: The player who landed on the space must receive the indicated value from all participating players.
- Lost cargo symbol: The last transported cargo was lost. Without insurance, receives nothing and loses the cargo.
- Damaged cargo symbol: The last cargo being transported was damaged. The player receives half the service value when it is completed. Insurance has no effect in this case.
- Returned cargo symbol: The cargo was returned to the port of origin. The transport fee must be paid again and the number of rounds restarted. Insurance has no effect in this case.
- Pay neighbor symbol: The player must pay the player to the left or right (as indicated on the board) the value described on the space.
- Half service value symbol: The player must receive only half the service value at the end of their next transport to be completed. Note the new service value on the control table.
- Irregular cargo symbol: The player was caught transporting irregular cargo. They lose the last transport made, receiving nothing, and must pay the fine indicated on the board.
- Kidnapped cargo symbol: The cargo was kidnapped. The player has 2 options: pay the ransom to recover it and continue with the transport normally; or, if they have purchased insurance, do not pay the ransom and recover the product's value.
DHL Wild Card
When the player draws the DHL wild card, they can keep it to use when they deem necessary. With this card, it is possible to contract the transport of cargo by sea or land mode and transform it into air without additional cost. In addition, the player also receives insurance for this cargo at no cost.
Attention! The player cannot transform an ongoing transport into air, the card is only valid at the beginning of the cargo import.
Loan
When any of the players runs out of money, they can ask the bank for a loan and pay with 10% interest on the received amount. The borrowed amount must be noted by the banker, who must also control the repayment period. If after 6 rounds the loan is not paid, the player is eliminated from the game.
The bank is responsible for notifying the player who requested the loan when there is only one round left before they are out of the game, if they do not pay the loan.
The player cannot request another loan without having paid the previous one. If they cannot pay a debt after having already taken a loan, the player is eliminated from the game.
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends when a player manages to fulfill their objective first, importing products to all continents indicated in the objective and, at the same time, managing to have at least $360,000 in cash.
The player who meets these two conditions becomes the best logistics operator in the world and wins the game!
