About the game

What you do in a play session

In Tsukiji: Special Cards you receive 8 promotional cards that add a fresh twist to the already lively Tsukiji market game. Each card brings a unique character or effect—from the Keisatsu police officer who can block trades, to the Neko cat that brings unexpected luck—and all of them fit perfectly into the commodity speculation, open drafting, set collection, and simultaneous action selection mechanics. The core goal remains the same: buy, sell, and trade market items to amass the greatest profit by the end of the rounds. What sets these promo cards apart is the new ways they interact: the Refund (Modoru) card can return resources, the Ice (Kori) card can freeze an opponent for a round, and so on. Open drafting keeps each card choice strategic, while simultaneous action selection keeps the tension high because no one knows what others will do until everything is revealed. The game still runs at 20‑30 minutes, great for quick sessions, and works well with 2 to 4 players. If you love market games with a touch of Japanese humor and want to try new cards that challenge your usual strategies, this expansion is a solid pick. Component quality stays high with well‑illustrated, durable cards, and the learning curve is gentle, letting newcomers feel at ease while veterans discover new tactics.

6 questions
How many players can play with this expansion?
The expansion works with 2 to 4 players, just like the base game.
What is the approximate playtime with the promo cards?
The game stays between 20 and 30 minutes, as the cards add new choices but don’t extend the game.
Do I need any extra components to use the expansion?
No! Just have the base Tsukiji game. The 8 promo cards are included with the expansion.
Are these cards harder to use than the base cards?
No, they follow the same basic rules. Some have special effects, but all are easy to understand.
Does the expansion change the game balance?
Yes, it introduces new strategies and blocks, but it doesn’t drastically shift the balance—just expands options.
Do I need to understand Japanese to play?
No! The card names are in Japanese, but the rules are in Portuguese and English, so there’s no language barrier.
