About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready to boost your vocabulary with Upwords! This word game goes beyond the traditional, allowing you to stack letters to create new words on top of old ones. Think of Scrabble with vertical building superpowers! The goal is simple: form words horizontally or vertically, but the magic happens when you use the tiles to transform existing words. For instance, 'LATE' can become 'CATER' and then 'BELATED', all by using the same base letters and adding new ones on top. The scoring is where things get interesting: words with a single layer of letters are worth 2 points per tile. However, if you use stacking, each letter counts as 1 point, including those at the bottom. This means even simple words can yield many points as the game progresses and the board fills with 'floors'. Be careful not to create towers too high, as there's a limit of five letters per stack. And don't forget to use those trickier letters like Q, X, and Z, or you might lose points at the end! Upwords is a constant mental challenge, requiring quick thinking and a good dose of imagination to navigate a board that's always changing. It's perfect for word game enthusiasts looking for a slightly different and more dynamic experience.
