About the game
In Utopia, you step into the role of a minister tasked with welcoming princes from great ancient civilizations arriving at the king's city-state. Each prince brings the architectural wealth of their homeland, and your job is to accommodate and guide them. The goal is to accumulate prestige by developing the city and attracting these noble guests. The game unfolds over turns, each divided into three crucial phases: welcoming the princes, developing the city, and calculating prestige points. In the first phase, you'll place guest tokens and replace them with prince tokens, representing their civilization. This is where strategy begins to take shape, as you can build a Wonder or take control of a district. Building a Wonder requires having a prince from each of the five civilizations on the same island, granting immediate points and bonuses. Controlling a district, on the other hand, requires having three princes of the same civilization in one location, which will earn you points at the end of the round and potentially more if a Wonder is present on that island. The second phase is where the real action happens. Using action cards, you can move your princes between districts (by land or sea), add more princes to districts you control, remove princes from other players' districts to gain prestige, and influence the King, altering the civilization prestige scale. Managing your action cards is key, as you can only hold five at the end of your turn. The final phase is the scoring, where district control is rewarded based on the current value of civilizations on the prestige scale. The game ends when a player reaches 50 prestige points, and the player with the highest score is declared the winner and the chief architect of Utopia.
