About the game
What you do in a play session
Throughout the Villagers calendar, the changing seasons bring traditions, visitors and events that open fresh avenues for trade and village expansion. Shifting Seasons, the first official expansion, adds modules that boost variability and give even more weight to strategic choices. The deck receives dozens of new cards, including event cards that create extra scoring chances and unexpected effects for all players. Among the new special villagers, the Engineer, Inventor and Merchant bring abilities that can bend the rules, letting you build faster or trade resources in clever ways. A whole new suit of villagers replaces the Grapes suit, enabling longer games with four or five players, yet it can also be slipped into smaller games for a tasty twist.
Teams are a new villager type that can be recruited at any time, adding food or building icons to your board and helping balance production during critical moments. Solo players aren’t left out: the Monastery Solo Mode offers a more relaxed single‑player experience where you face a deck‑driven “monastery” that simulates the pressure of a growing settlement.
Thanks to the extra cards and official rule additions, games typically last one round longer than the base game, giving enough time to construct even bigger and more sophisticated villages. The open drafting mechanic keeps tension high, as everyone sees what’s available and can plan their picks. Variable set‑up ensures each game starts differently, preventing fixed meta‑strategies from dominating. In short, Shifting Seasons expands the Villagers universe while preserving the smooth flow that made the original so appealing, delivering more content, more decisions and more fun for 1‑5 players.
