About the game
What you do in a play session
War Chest: Nightfall adds a new layer of intrigue to the already solid strategy core of War Chest. Instead of simply positioning armies on battlefields, players can now employ subterfuge cards, deception tricks, and sabotage to destabilize opponents before the first charge. The expansion introduces specialized units like spies and saboteurs that can block supply routes, poison water supplies, or sow confusion among enemy ranks. Each player receives a set of cards representing these covert actions, and deck building becomes crucial: deciding which cards to keep in hand, when to discard them, and when to play can turn the tide. Area control remains central, but influence can now be won through stealth actions as well as direct combat. The Area Majority mechanic stays, yet sabotage cards allow the player who does not control the largest area to still earn influence points. Nightfall keeps the core’s rule simplicity while adding a layer of tactical planning and hand management that demands constant attention. If you already enjoy War Chest and want more strategic variety, Nightfall offers an extra challenge without steepening the learning curve. Components are high‑quality: illustrated cards, detailed army pieces, and sabotage tokens that fit the game’s visual style. In short, Nightfall is an extension that brings more depth and tension to battles, turning every game into a mix of open strategy and silent subterfuge. Additionally, Nightfall introduces variable player powers that give each participant a unique ability, such as doubling the effectiveness of a sabotage card or rolling an extra die to determine infiltration success. This diversity of powers boosts replayability, making each game different as players adapt strategies to the set of abilities they hold. The expansion also adds new “False Treaty” cards that allow players to negotiate tricks with others, creating temporary alliances and heightening the social tension on the board.
