About the game
What you do in a play session
Prepare for a nostalgic space adventure! The evil robot Zaxxon and its legion of followers have invaded an asteroid belt, and it's up to you to defend the galaxy. Released in 1983, this Milton Bradley board game is one of those classic attempts to bring video game excitement to the tabletop. In Zaxxon, each player commands a spaceship, and the goal is to be the first to destroy enemy targets and, of course, defeat Zaxxon itself. Gameplay revolves around rolling dice to determine turn order and movement allowance, and using a spinner to simulate enemy attacks. When the spinner lands on red, ships in missile silo areas are shot down; on blue, ships in turret areas are hit. If a turret or silo has already been destroyed, that area is safe. Movement is simple, from one adjacent space to another, but there's a twist: changing altitude (high to low or vice-versa) costs one movement point. Flying at low altitude is necessary for shooting, while high altitude allows crossing walls. It's a two-player game with quick matches lasting about 30 minutes, ideal for those who enjoy a retro feel and simple roll-and-move mechanics with a touch of luck and basic strategy. Perfect for reminiscing about the good old days or introducing this golden era of gaming to a new generation.
