Who wouldn't want a furry best friend to help smash some zombies? 'Zombicide: Box of Dogs – Set #6: Dog Companions' brings exactly that: canine reinforcements for your team of survivors. This expansion doesn't overhaul the core game structure, but it adds a delightful tactical layer and, of course, plenty of cuteness—even in the middle of the apocalypse.
The mechanics are simple and organic. The set includes two groups of three different dogs. Their corresponding cards are shuffled into the equipment deck. When a survivor finds a dog card during a search action, they become that dog's handler. From that point on, the dog becomes an active ally on the battlefield.
Don't think they are just there for moral support, though. You can spend your actions to command your dog, allowing it to move, search for items, or attack the undead. The biggest strategic advantage is the combat bonus: if the dog is in the same zone as its handler, it provides extra melee dice during combat. It's the perfect combination of teeth and weaponry to clear out zombie zones much faster.
If you already own the Zombicide base game and want to add more dynamism to your sessions by introducing loyal companions who actually make a difference in combat, this set is the way to go. It's a lightweight addition that doesn't complicate the rules but brings an extra spice of strategy and the satisfaction of seeing your dog take down zombies while you cover its back. Get the dog food and the ammo ready, because the pack is ready for the hunt!
