Step by step

Game Objective

In Zombicide: Friends and Foes, players take on the roles of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. The goal is to complete the specific objectives of each scenario, which can range from rescuing villagers to collecting special artifacts. Victory is achieved when all mission objectives are fulfilled, while defeat occurs if all survivors are eliminated or if objectives aren't met within the allotted time.

Setup

To set up the game, follow these steps:

  1. Choose a mission from the manual and assemble the board as indicated on the mission map.
  2. Place Objective tokens, Zombie Spawn markers, and other components according to the mission's specific rules.
  3. Each player selects a Survivor and receives the corresponding character sheet.
  4. Add the Equipment and Zombie cards from the Friends and Foes expansion to the base game decks.
  5. Place the miniatures for Tainted Zombies, Tainted Abominations, and Companions next to the board, ready for use.

Refer to the manual for details about this section.

Game Flow

The game is divided into turns, where each player controls one or more Survivors. Each turn consists of the following phases:

  1. Player Phase: Survivors perform actions such as moving, attacking, searching, or opening doors.
  2. Zombie Phase: Zombies are activated and move toward survivors, following movement and attack rules.
  3. Zombie Spawn Phase: New zombies enter the board as Zombie Spawn cards are drawn.

Refer to the manual for details about this section.

Actions and How to Play

Each Survivor can perform up to 3 actions per turn. Available actions include:

  • Move: The survivor can move up to 3 zones, following movement and obstacle rules.
  • Attack: The survivor can use a weapon to attack zombies in the same zone or adjacent zones, depending on the weapon's range.
  • Search: The survivor can search for equipment in the current zone by drawing a card from the Equipment deck.
  • Open Doors: The survivor can open closed doors, granting access to new areas.

Companions can also perform actions, but only if the Trainer spends an action to command them. Refer to the manual for details about this section.

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends when all mission objectives are completed or when all Survivors are eliminated. Victory is achieved by completing the objectives, while defeat occurs if survivors are eliminated or objectives aren't met in time. Experience points are awarded for eliminating zombies and collecting Objective tokens, but there's no formal scoring system to determine a winner.

Tips for Winning

  • Avoid direct confrontations with Tainted Walkers: They deal retaliation damage when eliminated, so prefer ranged attacks.
  • Use Companions strategically: They can perform actions like searching or making noise to distract zombies.
  • Stick together: Teamwork increases survival chances and mission efficiency.
