Get your wings ready because in 8 Dragons, you take on the role of a majestic creature soaring through the kingdoms of Sinistra and Dextra. Legend says eight legendary dragons once banished the darkness from these lands, and now it's your turn to carry on that legacy. But here's the twist: you aren't flying solo! The core of the game is the 'Swarm' system. As new wyrmlings hatch, you form groups that mix your own offspring with those of other players. This creates an awesome dynamic: when you activate an action, every wyrmling in your swarm triggers effects, meaning you're earning benefits even during your opponents' turns. No more boring downtime!
As you glide across the landscape, you'll interact with local villagers who, grateful for the dragons' protection, help you expand your lair. This is where the puzzle element kicks in: you build your home chamber by chamber, organizing the space to store crystals, artifacts, and, of course, piles of gold. The goal is as straightforward as it gets for any dragon: whoever hoards the most gold wins the game.
The game blends shared action selection with individual tile placement, resulting in an experience where interaction is constant. You must balance exploring the kingdoms, completing lucrative missions, and managing your lair to maximize your profits. It's the kind of game that keeps everyone engaged, mixing positioning strategy with the satisfaction of seeing your hoard grow. If you love fantasy themes and mechanics where every move can benefit or hinder the group, 8 Dragons delivers that vibe of friendly (or not-so-friendly) competition between giant creatures.
