About the game

What you do in a play session

If you thought Westeros was already chaotic, get ready to cross the Narrow Sea! The 'Mother of Dragons' expansion drastically expands the horizons of A Game of Thrones, bringing House Targaryen into the fight for the Iron Throne. But they don't arrive with just fire and blood; the expansion adds a side board representing the Free Cities of Essos, where the power dynamics are different and the conquest begins far from the main continent. Additionally, House Arryn finally enters the fray in full, increasing the number of playable factions to eight, turning the table into a true diplomatic battlefield.

The big differentiator here is the introduction of mechanics that deepen the game's malice. We now have the vassal system, allowing you to convince other Houses to fight for you, creating alliances that can be as powerful as they are treacherous. And if your treasury is empty, you can knock on the door of the infamous Iron Bank of Braavos. They lend the gold needed to finance your military campaign, but be careful: the Iron Bank never forgets, and debt collection is relentless. If you fail to pay, the retribution will be swift and painful, potentially ruining your plans for domination.

This expansion isn't just about new pieces, but about new layers of strategy. The inclusion of Essos changes the game's geography, forcing players to think about logistics and power projection across the sea. It's the perfect choice for groups who have already mastered the base game and want more complexity, more political intrigue, and, of course, the chance to command dragons to incinerate anyone who dares stand in their way. Prepare your armies, negotiate with caution, and remember: in Essos, gold and fire rule, but betrayal is still the strongest currency.
