About the game

What you do in a play session

In Agamemnon, you and your opponent aren't just soldiers; you are gods pulling the strings of the bloody Trojan War. Forget dice and excessive luck; here, your success depends on your ability to deploy forces exactly where they are needed. The game features a modular board where battles are resolved across 'Strings of Fate', each with unique winning criteria: some demand raw strength, others strategic leadership, and some rely on weavers who manipulate the battlefield flow.

Each player starts with an identical set of 15 tiles, including Warriors (with strength values), Leaders (offering rank bonuses), and the crucial Weavers. The beauty of the game lies in the uncertainty: you draw tiles blindly and must make split-second decisions about where to place them. A Weaver can swap strings or split them, potentially turning a guaranteed victory into a humiliating defeat in seconds. The gameplay is fast, tense, and requires you to read your opponent's mind as much as your own board.

At the end of the game, once all tiles are placed, the score is resolved string by string. The player who has collected the most tiles through these resolutions wins. It is an elegant, straightforward game, perfect for those who enjoy brainy duels that don't take all afternoon. If you enjoy abstract games with a classic thematic coat and love feeling that every move has real weight, Agamemnon delivers exactly that. It is a back-and-forth experience where long-term strategy meets opportunistic tactics. Prepare to be a manipulative god and ensure your side of the story is the one remembered for centuries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

5 questions
How long does a game take?
It's quite fast! Usually between 20 to 30 minutes, making it a great filler or perfect for when you want something strategic without spending hours.
How many players is it for?
Exclusively for 2 players. It's designed as a direct duel, so it doesn't work with more people.
Is it hard to learn?
Not at all, it has a weight of about 2.17. The rules are simple and intuitive, but the strategic depth emerges as you learn how to manipulate the strings.
Is there a lot of luck involved?
There is a draw factor, but since you manage what you have and decide where to place it, strategy outweighs luck. It's more about how you handle what you draw.
Does the board change every game?
Yes! Since the board is modular, the layout of the 'Strings of Fate' can vary, which gives the game new life in every session.
