How to Play Alhambra: The Treasure Chamber

Objective of the Game

In Alhambra: The Treasure Chamber, players must protect the Caliph's Treasure Chamber by clearing it and moving the treasure chests to safety. By placing these treasure chests into buildings of the same color, players earn extra points during the scoring rounds. This expansion introduces new modules that can be played individually or combined with the original game and other expansions, while maintaining the core rules of the original Alhambra.

Preparation (Setup)

1. Place the small treasure chamber board (with its 3 rooms) in a convenient location.
2. Place all 42 treasure chests into the provided bag.
3. Randomly draw 4 treasure chests from the bag and place them into each of the 3 rooms of the treasure chamber.

Fluxo do Jogo

The game follows the structure of the original Alhambra. Players take turns performing actions. This expansion adds a new option to the three existing actions (Take money, Buy and position a building, Redesign your Alhambra): the ability to buy treasure chests.

Once a player buys treasure chests and empties a room, that room is refilled with 4 new treasure chests drawn randomly from the bag. If there are not enough chests left to refill a room, it remains empty, and no further chests are replaced for the remainder of the game.

Ações e Como Jogar

On their turn, a player may choose to buy treasure chests as an additional action. To do so, the player must pay at least 8 units in any combination of currencies. Note that players do not receive an extra turn if they pay the exact amount.

Distributing Treasure Chests:

• When bought, the 4 treasure chests must be distributed among the player's buildings of the corresponding color.
• Only 1 chest can be placed in a building at any time.
• Chests can be placed in buildings bought during the current turn, but cannot be placed in buildings currently on the player's reserve board.
• Chests cannot be placed on workers' huts.
• If a player cannot place all chests, the remaining chests are passed to the player on their left, who then has the opportunity to place them in their own buildings. If chests still remain, they are passed to the next player. Any chests that cannot be placed by any player are returned to the bag.
• If a building containing a treasure chest is removed during a redesign, the chest is returned to the bag.

Fim de Jogo e Pontuação

The game ends according to the rules of the original Alhambra. Treasure chest points are awarded during the scoring rounds:

• The color of the chests does not matter; only the total quantity held by each player is relevant.
• The player with the most chests receives 1st place points, the second-most receives 2nd place points, and the third-most receives 3rd place points.
• The specific point values are printed on the treasure chamber board.
• If players are tied in the number of chests, the same tie-breaking procedure used for building points in the original game applies.
• In a two-player game, any chests that cannot be placed are passed to "Dirk" (the virtual 3rd player) to be placed in matching buildings before being passed further.

• Strategic Placement: Since you can place treasure chests in buildings purchased during the same turn, try to time your building acquisitions to maximize your ability to clear a room from the treasure chamber immediately.
• Manage Your Leftovers: Be aware that any treasure chests you cannot place will be passed to your opponents. Avoid buying chests if you do not have enough matching buildings to accommodate them, unless you intend to provide your opponents with the excess.
