About the game

What you do in a play session

Amerigo Queenie 1: Volcanic Island is the first mini‑expansion for the 2013 board game Amerigo. It adds a single modular tile that can be played on its own or combined with any of the other modules from the base game, giving you a fresh layout each time you play. During setup you place the volcanic island tile in the central area and cover each marked space with a face‑down gold tile. Whenever a player builds on one of those spots, they flip the tile, read the number and immediately collect that amount of gold. The volcano itself is impassable – no building is allowed there, a rule confirmed by designer Stefan Feld. The expansion preserves Amerigo's core mechanics: action points to decide what to do, grid movement for ship placement, and tile placement that shapes the map. The modular board adds visual variety and strategic depth, as the island can be mixed with other modules to create new routes and profit opportunities. With a light weight (2.8/5) and an average playtime of about 75 minutes, the expansion slots neatly into regular sessions without overwhelming players. It’s perfect for fans of nautical, Renaissance‑era games who also enjoy a volcanic theme and the thrill of hidden treasure. In short, Volcanic Island is a simple upgrade that injects extra tactical choices and golden rewards into the solid foundation of Amerigo.
