About the game
What you do in a play session
In Antler Island, each player takes on a stag that has arrived on a Scottish island during the rutting season. The goal? Become the most coveted stag by kissing the most does and beating rivals in head‑to‑head combat. The game blends three pillars: hunger, fighting, and courting. First, you secretly choose the action you want to take – you can graze to gain stamina, challenge another stag to a duel, or try to win over a doe. Choices are made simultaneously, then placed into an action queue that resolves in order, giving that "what now?" feeling.
Simultaneous Action Selection ensures nobody knows exactly what the opponent is plotting until the reveal, while the Action Queue lets you plan longer‑term strategies. Each round offers bluffing opportunities: you might pretend to be starving to attract attention, or act weak to trick an opponent before delivering the final blow. Humor shines through the caricatured illustrations of the stags and the exaggerated fighting and romance scenarios.
For 3–4 players, a game runs about 45 minutes and is easy to learn thanks to a quick‑start guide. Despite its light feel, there are meaningful decisions – when to spend stamina on fighting versus courting can swing the outcome. With a weight of 1.96/5, it’s approachable for newcomers yet deep enough for seasoned gamers who enjoy bluffing and direct confrontations. In short, Antler Island offers a fun, strategic, laugh‑filled experience, perfect for relaxed game nights with friends.
