About the game
What you do in a play session
Bardwood Grove is a tableau‑building eurogame in which each player takes on the role of an eccentric bard from the Five Realms universe. You’ll explore the Halfling Realm, a lush forest city home to the most legendary bards, and use a unique tempo dial to assemble temporary "Song" tableaux from your skill deck. Each bard starts with an asymmetric deck that matches their style – the brute‑force Bardbarian, the swift Sword Dancer, and the percussive Wardrummer – and each turn you draw two cards, play one for an immediate effect and add the other to your tableau.
The goal is to gather Glory and Fame; once all Glory tokens are taken, the player with the highest combined total wins. To succeed you must balance tableau construction, choose the right moments to sing (activate songs), and move across the forest’s locations, each offering different bonuses. Mechanics such as deck‑building, movement points, and variable player powers provide strategic depth, while end‑game bonuses reward well‑planned combos.
The game also includes a solid solo mode and an achievement system that unlocks extra content as you play – new skills, characters, even new bards can appear. This evolving layer keeps each session fresh, as the grove itself seems to reveal new secrets. With 1‑4 players, 60‑90 minutes playtime and a light weight (3.3/5), Bardwood Grove will please fans of thematic deck‑building, storytelling and musical flair.
