About the game
What you do in a play session
Black Fleet puts you in command of three different vessels battling for Caribbean supremacy: a merchant ship that earns doubloons by ferrying cargo between ports, a pirate ship that raids merchants, steals goods and buries them on islands, and a Navy ship tasked with sinking opposing pirates. Each round begins with a hand of Fortune cards that provide options to move, attack, or upgrade your fleet. Advancement cards are purchased with the money you earn—whether from successful deliveries or plunder—and grant permanent abilities such as extended movement or combat bonuses. The board is divided into sea zones and islands, using a grid‑based movement system that makes route planning straightforward. Hand management is key, as you must decide when to unleash a combo attack or hold back a defensive card. The win condition is to amass enough doubloons to pay the governor’s daughter’s ransom, which requires balancing wealth generation with protecting your ships from opponents. The game lasts about 60 minutes, supports 3‑4 players, and has a gentle learning curve, perfect for fans of tactical miniature games with plenty of player interaction. While accessible, the presence of Take‑That cards ensures no one gets too comfortable, as a sudden raid can flip the board in an instant. In short, Black Fleet delivers a swashbuckling strategic experience where trade, looting, and naval combat blend into fast, twist‑filled rounds.
