Imagine a world plunged into total darkness because the Guardians of Light, tired of human greed, decided to extinguish the bonfires that once illuminated the cities. Now, only the gnomes remain, and they are not happy with the gloom. Your goal is straightforward yet challenging: convince the Guardians to reignite the bonfires in your city by proving that gnomes are trustworthy and well-intentioned.
To achieve this, you'll sail to holy islands, accept tasks, and complete them to earn the Guardians' trust. The heart of the game is a puzzle system on your individual player board. You'll fit colored tiles representing actions into the grid. The clever part is that by placing identical colors adjacent to one another, you create combos that grant you more action tiles of that specific type. This means you can choose to become a master navigator, a gnome recruiter, or an urban infrastructure specialist.
Throughout the game, you'll manage your ship, recruit gnomes with special abilities, build paths for Guardian processions (which bring valuable resources), and seek support at the final bonfire to obtain portals and bonuses. It's an engine-building game where every placement decision shapes how your city operates. Final scoring is based on the bonfires you've reignited and the improvements you've implemented. If you enjoy games where positioning matters and your strategy evolves as you assemble your 'action puzzle,' Bonfire is the perfect fit.
